Castanea sativa
Height: 1,2–1,5 m
The mature size of the sweet chestnut is typically between 10 and 25 meters; the final height and stature of a given plant also depend on environmental conditions. It is self-fertile, and even a single specimen is enough for a successful chestnut harvest. It is a light-demanding tree and yields the most abundant crop in a sunny spot. Its growth slows in shade. It prefers deep, fresh, light, potassium-rich, lime-free, fertile, slightly acidic soil. It dislikes calcareous, potassium-poor, very dry or excessively wet, very compacted, airless soils. Thanks to its high carbohydrate content, it can replace grains and potatoes in our diet. The content of vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and E, as well as folate (the natural form of vitamin B9), is not negligible, and it is also rich in dietary fiber. A characteristic feature
