Euonymus europaeus

Height: 0,4–0,5 m

A large shrub or small tree that grows to 4-5 m in height and 2-2.5 m in width. Deciduous, with oblong, lance-shaped leaves that are green in summer but turn bright orange, red and gold in autumn, which gives it its main ornamental value. Its woody parts are ribbed in parallel, hence the name 'spindle'. The flowers appear in spring or early summer, but are inconspicuous and insignificant. The flower color is yellowish. The fruit stays on the shrub for a long time, pink, rarely white, and the orange seed is visible from the fruit capsule. It grows well in sunny and partially shaded spots. However, in shady spots the autumn color will not be very striking. It likes well-drained soil rich in nutrients. Its water needs are moderate, but it appreciates regular watering. It can be planted as a specimen plant, but it is also a perfect element of natural gardens.
