The red-leaf ornamental apple is a tree with a wide crown that grows to a height of about 4-6 m. Its long shoots are dark red. Its leaves are initially dark red, purple, and then become greenish-red. Its flowers, which bloom in April, are also dark pink and purple. From midsummer it forms cherry-sized apple-like fruits. Its fruits are edible, but are mostly used for making fruit jelly. It loves sun, and planting in a sunny spot is recommended. Its water requirements are medium. It likes well-structured, loose soil. It can be planted as a specimen plant, or in combination with other plants.
