The blue spruce is an evergreen tree that grows to a height of about 20-30 m, with a conical crown. Its light brown cones are 6-10 cm long, with soft scales, and its leaves, 1.5-3 cm long, are gray-green and prickly. It loves a sunny spot and well-structured soil. Its water requirements are medium. It grows best in a humid climate, but also tolerates drier climates with low humidity, especially the silvery-bluish cultivars. The most decorative species.

Conifers sold as root-balled plants (dug out of the ground) are planted during the dormant period, from mid-October to the end of April, except when the ground is frozen.
