Quince fruit Hemus
The Hemus quince originates from Bulgaria. It flowers late compared to other fruit species, so it avoids frost well, flowering 2 days later than Leskovačka. It is only partially self-fertile and needs a pollinator; Triumf and Vranjska pollinate it well. The fruits are pear-shaped and large, weighing around 450 g; when ripe they are light greenish with yellow tones. The flesh is white, similar to apple, sweet and extremely aromatic. Ripens from mid-October. It prefers sun and well-drained soil, with moderate water needs. Hemus is one of the most fire-blight-resistant quince varieties in the world. After picking, the fruits can be stored for a few months without significant changes.
