Ribes rubrum Jonkheer van Tets

The red currant 'Jonkheer van Tets' is a shrub 1-1.5 m tall with an upward branching habit and moderately dense, strong foliage. Its light green leaves are large, upright and blunt-tipped, the middle lobe is pointed, and the underside is velvety and shiny. It blooms in April with small yellow flowers. The tasty, tart fruits are large, round and loosely arranged on the clusters. They ripen in mid-June. Their skin is thin, glossy and dark red. Irresistible eaten fresh, as jam or even syrup. It likes a sunny or filtered-shade, airy spot and slightly loose, deep soil rich in nutrients. Its water needs are moderate, but adequate water supply is important during fruit development.
