Hydrangea macrophylla Blaumeise

Garden hydrangea Blaumeise is a compact, deciduous ornamental shrub of round shape that grows to about 1.2-1.5 m in height and 0.9-1.2 m in width. Its leaves are green and round, and take on a burgundy tint when they open. Its large, plate-shaped flowers are adorned with a cobalt blue color. The flower color is affected by the soil pH. In acidic soil it will be blue, while in alkaline soil the flowers will be pink. It needs a partially shaded spot and well-structured, slightly acidic soil. Its water needs are high. In case of severe frosts, young plants should be covered. It can be planted in a pot, but also combined in perennial beds.
