The Waterlily magnolia is a deciduous small tree 2.5-4 meters tall. The flowers are white and star-shaped and bloom before the leaves appear, often in mid-March, so planting in a sheltered spot is of the utmost importance in this case, to avoid damage to the flowers from spring frosts. A plant with medium light requirements, so it can be planted in both sunny and partially shaded spots. Loose, well-draining, nutrient-rich, slightly acidic soil is ideal. Its water needs are high, so it requires irrigation during long periods of drought. It is mostly recommended to plant it as a specimen, so that it can adorn the garden with its unique beauty.
