Hydrangea petiolaris
Height: 0,5–0,6 m
This variety of hydrangea is a climber that can reach a height of 5-8 meters with a suitable support system. Its leaves are dark green and round, with toothed edges. Its flat, corymb-like flower cluster consists of sterile and fertile flowers, which bloom from July to October. The fertile flowers are cream, possibly pale yellow, while the sterile flowers are large and white. The climbing hydrangea is a plant with moderate light requirements; the ideal spot is part sun or partial shade. Its water needs are moderate. It is advisable to cover young plants before the onset of frost until they are 5-6 years old. With the climbing hydrangea, it is important to create a suitable support system up to the planned height of the shoots, after which it is only necessary to prune shoots that grow beyond it. Because of its climbing nature, it gives distinction to any garden; it can be planted as a specimen, but also in combination with other plants.
