Prunus lusitanica

Height: 0,4–0,5 m

Portuguese laurel is an evergreen shrub that reaches a height of about 3-4 m. A fast-growing variety with a densely branched shoot system. Its leaves are glossy, lance-shaped, leathery, with slightly serrated edges. The leaf stalk is reddish burgundy. The flowers bloom in late spring or early summer, in white clusters resembling candles. The fruit is black, which also makes it decorative and allows it to be used in bird-friendly gardens. It requires a sunny spot, but also grows well in partial shade. Loose, well-draining, nutrient-rich soil is ideal for it. Its water needs are moderate; it is worth watering regularly, with smaller amounts of water. It tolerates pruning well. It can be planted as a specimen plant, as a hedge, or looks lovely in combination with other plants.
