Chaenomeles superba Red Trail

Height: 0,3–0,4 m

A medium-sized, thorny deciduous shrub, 1-1.2m tall and 1.5-2m wide. Its leaves are glossy, oval and eye-catching. Its shoots are slightly irregular and arching. In March and April it blooms profusely with its five-petaled, bright red, striking flowers. The flowers almost cover the shoots. Its fruits are apple-like, yellowish green and edible, although they have a bitter taste. A sunny or partly shaded spot and loose, well-drained soil rich in nutrients are ideal for it. Its water needs are moderate; it should be watered with smaller amounts of water, especially during drought. It can be planted as a specimen plant, as a low hedge, but it also looks good in combination with other plants.
